What is sin?
James 4:17
Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.

I John 3:4
Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.

God is holy and perfect; people are sinful.  If you tried to perfect for even a single day - you
could not do it.  Sin is many things, but it is knowing what is right and then refusing to do it.

Who has sinned?

Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Romans 5:17
For if by one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive
abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus
Christ.

The Bible says "all have sinned".  We simply cannot help it - we're human.  When Adam
sinned (in Genesis, in the Garden of Eden), sin entered the human race and sinfulness
became part of our nature.

What is so bad about sin?

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death.

Isaiah 59:2
But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face
from you, so that He will not hear.

Sin leads to death.  Because God is perfect, He cannot have anything to do with us because
we are sinners.  He wants to have a personal relationship with us, but He can't because of
sin.  So what did God do? (go back and click "Why Jesus Christ")
